Obtaining Slovenian Residence Permit
Slovenian residence permit is a document, that allows foreigners to reside in the state more than 90 days. Immigration to Europe via naturalization starts with it. This paper can be acquired by providing sufficient reasons to live inside the state (study, work etc.). It grants the possibility to apply for Slovenian citizenship by naturalization and immigrate to European Union in the future.
Two types of residence permit exist: permanent (PRP) and temporary (TRP). The first one is issued for a period of one year initially. It allows you to reside in Slovenia until it expires. The duration of subsequent licenses can be up to three years. Immigrants who have lived in Slovenia for 5 years and have not changed the grounds for residence during this time can obtain PRP. If the reason for extension changes (for example, you stop working and start studying), the period of stay is canceled, and these years are counted from scratch. Unlike the temporary permit, it provides same rights and benefits as Slovenian passport holders have.
Getting Slovenian temporary residence permit
In Slovenia, immigrants that use long-stay visa can apply for temporary residence permit. Getting this visa is necessary for immigration to this state, without using repatriation or investment procedures. Next phase is document preparation. Necessary papers are listed below. The third step is an official request at the Ambassy you obtained visa from. Application at Slovenian administrative division works too. The last phase – registration, gaining a temporary residence card.
Documents required to submit:
- Filled application form;

The procedure duration depends on the purpose of entry to Slovenia. For instance, temporary residence permits for education are issued faster than others. Renewal of this official paper is similar to the first application for it, with the same requirements. It is recommended to apply one month before the expiration.
Registration of permanent residence permit
Immigrants can obtain permanent residence permit by residing in Slovenia for five years on a temporary permit basis. The required living time may be reduced if your professional (working, sports, cultural, etc.) activities make significant contributions to the development of the state. Immigrants can use it for ten years. It can be obtained by having asylum status or being of Slovenian origin (by repatriation). Having a family connection to a citizen of that country allows you to apply for and receive it.
